Dr. Doug Simon became the Dean of the College of Leadership and Military Studies and the Commandant of Cadets in July of 2022. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Sociology, a Juris Doctor (J.D.), and a Masters in Law (LL.M). Dr. Simon has 27 years of higher education experience as a professor, department chair, and dean. Coupled with Dr. Simon’s higher education experience, he has served in the military. Dr. Simon enlisted in 1989 with a field artillery unit and subsequently direct commissioned in 2000 as a judge advocate with the Minnesota Army National Guard. As a judge advocate, Dr. Simon has served in a variety of legal assignments including Staff Judge Advocate for the state of Minnesota and Deputy Legal Counsel for United States Strategic Command as an Army Reservist. He currently holds the rank of colonel and is assigned as an Academic Officer at the Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School located in Charlottesville, Virginia.
